Alpha Networks joins TSMC Charity Foundation to donate access points to remote townships for continuous learning

As all schools and after-school care institutions in Taiwan are closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, students are required to attend online classes to carry out “Learning never stops”; however, the expensive computer equipment and poorly-constructed network environment bring challenges to families lacking resources or located in remote areas. Therefore, Alpha Networks Foundation joins TSMC Charity Foundation to donate access points to contribute to distance learning through the collaboration with local departments/bureaus of education and principals.

Alpha Networks General Manager Yuchin Lin mentioned that students in remote townships cannot enjoy the similar learning environment as schools located in urban areas due to the insufficient allotment of educational expenditure. Upholding the concept of “Take from society, give back to society”, Alpha Networks aims to help students in remote townships continue learning during the pandemic through their expertise of network communication industry.

Sophia Chang, Chairperson of TSMC Charity Foundation, commented that, due to the lack of software and hardware device, students in remote townships are forced to face a disadvantaged situation under the pandemic. The foundation will donate 1,000 laptops, along with the 1,000 access points supported by Alpha Networks. Following the donation to Kaohsiung City Government, these devices will be contributed to administrative regions including Tainan, Yunlin, Changhua and Pingtung.

Thanks to the superior efficiency of TSMC Charity Foundation and related organizations, the first batch of network routers and associated hardware devices were sent to Education Bureau, Kaohsiung City Government, on June 4 and distributed and installed immediately to create a perfect learning environment for students as soon as possible.

Since last year, TSMC Charity Foundation has been partnering with Alpha Networks to support education in remote townships and hopes to facilitate disadvantages students with the convenience brought by the internet. These two foundations created borderless virtual classrooms and donated access points to Shuanglong Elementary School in Xinyi Township, Nantou County. Mr. Yuchin Lin also attended the learning experience sharing event on March 17 this year.

As a “mobile communication-oriented” organization, problems such as information gap or insufficient resources in remote townships encourage Alpha Foundation to constantly think about the equality in education as well as recognize the urban-rural divide and social justice. Mr. Yuchin Lin hopes to provide network communication-related products and volunteer services to enable students in remote townships to engage in diverse learning as well as ensure technology education in remote townships to keep pace with global standards.
