Alpha and Rapidtek Successfully Deliver Scientific Research Results to Compete for International Orders Together

Major network communication manufacturer Alpha Networks (TWSE:3380), Rapidtek (6980), Gold Circuit Electronics (GCE, 2368), and Taiwan Union Technology Corporation (TUC, 6274)'s joint promotion of Industrial Development Administration (IDA), Ministry of Economic Affairs' Beyond-5G (B5G) theme R&D project came to an official conclusion in late 2023 with the completion of the prototype of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite ground equipment. By working together on the IDA's theme R&D project, the four companies have jointly created the low Earth orbit satellite ground station supply chain to develop products with international competitiveness and in turn vigorously expand the global sales territory.

The Industrial Technology Research Institute industry service center has assisted the IDA in launching the B5G LEO satellite industrial development project since 2020. Through close collaboration, four companies including Alpha Networks, Rapidtek, GCE, and TUC performed an overall optimization of the antenna array, frequency up-down (UD) module, and radome, meeting customers' Ku band specifications required for LEO satellite ground communication equipment from components to subsystems. All developments were completed independently by Taiwanese firms.

According to Rapidtek founder Arthur Wang, the achievement marks yet another milestone in Taiwan's field of LEO development. Taiwan's space ground equipment industry has reached a considerable scale. In 2022, the gross output of Taiwan's space industry was NTD215.8 billion, of which ground equipment accounts for 98.7%. In recent years, the output of domestic ground equipment has increased by 20%, which is significantly higher than the growth rate of the global market, thereby demonstrating the importance of ground equipment in the satellite field.

The project team members have accrued years of specialized experience in their respective industries. Alpha Networks is a major network communication R&D manufacturer capable of developing complex wired or wireless products. Rapidtek has experience in LEO satellite antenna array design, R&D, and testing, capable of developing and integrating testing of CubeSat systems. GCE is a manufacturer of high-end server PCB products capable of resolving process-related problems in multilayer PCB processes. TUC can R&D high-frequency and high-speed copper foil substrate materials, which are suitable for low-loss high-speed signal transmission. The company possesses years of R&D experience for materials used in the radio frequency (RF) field. The R&D prowess of the alliance team speaks for itself as it has repeatedly garnered recognition in various fields.

Alpha Networks Chairman Huang Wen-Fang comments that the company is mainly responsible for developing the ground station platform including module heat dissipation design, radome design, as well as heat dissipation efficiency analysis, production, and manufacturing of the ground station. Alpha Networks has resolved the manufacturing and design problems by producing large-scale antenna array modules. The company will continue to accumulate experience in the field of LEO satellites and improve the reliability of the complete machine in conjunction with the optimization of its in-house radome design and heat dissipation team.

Taiwanese manufacturers' foray into the field of LEO satellites not only enhances the accumulation of satellite technology development but also serves to cultivate specialists in the domestic satellite field. At the same time, alliances will be formed to satisfy client needs and convert output into revenue, continuing to develop the field of LEO satellites through diverse channels.
