Alpha Networks Wins 2023 Taiwan Sustainability Action Award for Waste and Plastic Reduction through Green Packaging
Alpha Networks (3380), the leading supplier of network communication solutions, won the silver award at the “Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards” (TSAA) for “effective waste and plastic reduction through green packaging.” The award was presented today (7/21) at a formal ceremony held in Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1.
There has been an increase in the need to ship semi-assemblies or parts to non-China plants for back-end processing since the start of the US-China trade war so the use of transfer packaging has shot up as well. Existing transfer packaging were made from plastics or foam trays that did not satisfy the requirement for “biodegradability.” Low level of commonality made “recycling” and “multiple reuse” difficult.
The trend towards a circular economy meant that 350 brand-named vendors have already committed to using packaging that are “recyclable”, “reusable” and “biodegradable” by 2025. Leading international vendors are now embracing the circular economy and requiring their supply chains to support the push for greater environmental sustainability through plastic reduction and reuse. As a responsible manufacturer, Alpha Networks is taking the lead by making changes happen.
Alpha Networks started by focusing on product design and environmental friendliness. Emphasis was placed on fulfilling corporate responsibility to customers and society by supporting SDG 12 on “responsible consumption and production.” Every effort was made to introduce products that satisfy the environmental requirements of Alpha Networks’ suppliers including “effective waste and plastic reduction through green packaging.” A combination of modular inserts and bases were developed that could be configured into protective padding for different product dimensions. Improving the commonality of packaging not only translated into cost savings on mold and packaging development but is also better for the environment and circular economy.
Alpha Networks achieved a waste reduction of 6.5% in 2021, and 2.6% in 2022. Continued improvements are being made to related areas in keeping with the latest trends and current business operations.
