Alpha Networks to Exhibit at 2022 Taipei AMPA, Setting the Stage for the "4D Imaging" Era of mmWave Radar

Major network equipment supplier Alpha Networks (TWSE:3380) will exhibit at the 2022 Taipei AMPA (Autotronics Taipei 2022) commencing today at booth K0430 on the first floor of Nangang Exhibition Hall 1. During the four-day event, Alpha Networks will showcase key technologies and products, including short, medium, long range and 2D/3D automotive radar, Around View Monitor (AVM), and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Lin Yu-Chin, General Manager of Alpha Networks, pointed out that Alpha Networks has been developing millimeter wave (mmWave) technology since the inception of the technology, and has developed and applied its mature radar technology in the fields of automotive, industrial control, and security monitoring applications. The company has successfully mass-produced radars in the 24GHz, 77GHz, and 79GHz bands, and will continue to develop software/imaging radars with high accuracy, high diffractive performance, high reflectivity, and virtual array antennas.

According to the ARTC study, at this stage, autonomous vehicle systems are mainly achieved through the interactive use of millimeter wave radar, LiDAR, cameras and other sensing systems. However, conventional millimeter wave radar systems cannot detect tilt angles, generally lack adequate clarity, and can only determine the presence of objects such as vehicles on a block-by-block basis, i.e. blind zone warning. Although LiDAR systems can achieve high-definition 3D mapping and modeling, but the installation location is more restrictive, and any obstacles in front of the sensor may affect its performance. Furthermore, unit costs are high and the system is easily affected by weather. Plus, high intensity beam waves have a greater impact on the human body; staring straight at the beam is prone to cause injury, so it currently has the lowest level of commercialization. As for camera systems, although the hardware cost is relatively low, but it requires a strong software team to conduct AI training for image analysis, so the overall cost of the solution is also expensive, and most vulnerable to inclement weather conditions. Alpha Networks has long been dedicated to the research and development of automotive communication network technology and has a keen grasp on market demand. To make up for the shortfalls of millimeter wave radar, LiDAR and camera systems, Alpha Networks has actively invested resources to develop the most advanced 4D image radar technology.

In recent years, with rapid developments seen in V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) innovations and the popularization of mobile networks, Alpha Networks has developed 4D imaging radar and car communication network system for customers by leveraging its rich experience in the research and development of communication, antennas, mmWave, and radar sensing technologies, which can truly achieve seamless convergence of sensor technologies and wireless communication, thus making self-driving cars and car networking no longer expensive and inaccessible. At the same time, Alpha Networks has a leading competitive advantage in the development of its own millimeter wave radar and algorithm capabilities, and can customize products for various customer scenarios. The technology is further integrated with radar sensors, webcams and network communication technologies to grasp opportunities in V2X applications.
